A Towering Debate

Patch takes a look at proposed cell towers in Vienna and across Northern Virginia

With the approval of a cell tower along the southern bleachers of its football field, Madison High School joins the growing number of properties across Northern Virginia that leases land for the construction of cell towers. And if the Fairfax County Planning Commission approves a proposal for another tower in Vienna tonight, Thoreau Middle School will be next.

In this series of articles, Patch examines the proposed Thoreau tower and the Madison tower, which will recieve final building permits sometime in the next 45 days; what cell towers offer wireless users and schools; health concerns about tower radiation; and the group of residents trying to keep towers out of Vienna.

A public hearing for the Thoreau tower will be held at 8:15 p.m. tonight at the Fairfax County Planning Commission Meeting at the Fairfax County Government Center.
