Vienna Town Council voted Monday night in favor of height adjustment that would allow municipal parking garages to stand at 50 feet rather than 35 feet.

Cunningham Park Elementary School students who walk to school each day came one step closer to having a safer path Monday as the Vienna Town Council awarded a contract for a Safe Routes to Schools (SRTS) sidewalk project along Harmony Drive and Lullaby Lane.

Former Vienna Mayor Joe Spriggs died Aug. 15 at the age of 79.

Lower calorie counts, reduced sodium and saturated fats, and more fruits and vegetables are some of the changes Fairfax County Public Schools students will find when they return to school next month. The system's changes to its school lunch program come with new federal nutrition standards being implemented this fall in schools across the country, the largest reform of national lunch and breakfast programs in 15 years.

American Legion Post 180 Baseball awarded Henry Brandmark with the Chris Burr MVP trophy. Brandmark broke two Post 180 baseball records as a relief pitcher with five saves and a 0.74 ERA, throwing 50 strikeouts in 36.1 innings. He led his team with a .374 batting average, .548 slugging percentage and 43 hits — and a team-best 14 doubles.
