Best Of Vienna Patch: Grocers
Starting this week, we'll ask you to vote for the "best" of some of your favorite places around town. This week: Which is the best grocery store in Vienna?
Who has the best cup of coffee? Which park is the best in town?
Starting Monday, Vienna Patch will run a new series called "Best of Vienna Patch."
Here's how it will work: On Monday morning, we'll publish a poll and list choices for you to vote on. You'll also be able to "write in" a nomination in the Comments box.
You'll be able to vote until Friday at 9 a.m. Ties will be broken by whichever business has the most positive comments in the section below. We will announce the winner at noon Friday.
What will the winner get? Bragging rights! And a framed certificate to let customers know about the title, too.
This week, we're asking you to pick your favorite grocery store. Here are your choices (if we forgot any, add them in the comments).
- Fresh Market
- Giant Food
- Magruder's
- Maple Avenue Market
- Whole Foods Market
Because this poll is not scientific, it is not the sole consideration in choosing a winner. The winner will be determined by the Patch editor, based on poll results and reviews on Patch Places. Please vote only once per survey, per Patch.

Whole Foods is like a small town grocer where you are known and greeted with a smile, often by name. We especially like Bob and Nick, the "fish guys."

They're both friendly and know regulars by name. There's really no need to pit one against the other -- considering they both like each other and are good corporate neighbors. I've had folks from Maple refer me to Whole Foods sometimes, and the Whole Foods folks refer me to Maple as well. Actually, on the Whole Foods Vienna page, they linked to Patch and suggested voting for either themselves or Maple...so they really coexist nicely.
Both have a great community feel (and both give back a lot to the community)...something that I don't get when I stroll into Giant or Magruders for whatever random item I may need that the locals don't carry.
I'll never shop in Fresh Market just due to their corporate response on Facebook and in writing to the Save Norm's Beer & Wine movement.

Unfortunately, Wegman's is outside of Vienna or they would have received my vote!
