Best Of Winner: Whole Foods Named Best Grocer
Maple Avenue Market trailed by just five votes in inaugural reader poll
Congratulations to Whole Foods Market, who was chosen as the "Best Grocers" in Vienna in our inaugural "Best Of" poll.
The battle wasn't easy -- Early on, it was clear there would be two front runners: Maple Avenue Market and Whole Foods.
More than 200 readers chimed in with their choices, and at mid-week, Maple Avenue Market led with the most votes.
Whole Foods fans chimed in early Friday morning to give the store an edge when the poll closed at 9 a.m.
Whole Foods took the title with 81 votes; Maple Avenue Market trailed by just five, coming in at 76 votes.
In the comments, readers wrote about their love for both locations.
Reader Wien said both had won a place in his heart.
"They're both friendly and know regulars by name. There's really no need to pit one against the other -- considering they both like each other and are good corporate neighbors. I've had folks from Maple refer me to Whole Foods sometimes, and the Whole Foods folks refer me to Maple as well. Actually, on the Whole Foods Vienna page, they linked to Patch and suggested voting for either themselves or Maple...so they really coexist nicely," he wrote. "Both have a great community feel (and both give back a lot to the community)...something that I don't get when I stroll into Giant or Magruders for whatever random item I may need that the locals don't carry."
Complete final results:
- Fresh Market: 20
- Giant Food: 10
- Magruder's: 19
- Maple Avenue Market: 76
- Whole Foods Market:81

Whole Foods cannot hold a candle to Wegman's - Wegman's beats Whole Foods and every other market in Northern Virginia by a very wide margin in every category!!!
