Update: Child Dies After Falling In Vienna Creek

Update 5:21 p.m. Friday: A memorial service for Jack Donaldson will begin at 2 p.m. Monday in the sanctuary at the Vienna Presbyterian Church. A reception will follow in the great hall.

Jack, 12, was the son of Tim Donaldson and Anna Whiston-Donaldson and a brother to younger sister Margaret, the church wrote on its website.

Update 9:04 a.m. Friday: Fairfax County Police said 12-year-old Jack Donaldson was reported missing around 6 p.m. last night after he had been playing in his backyard on Marcliff Court.

Fairfax County police, fire and rescue personnel responded to the area to search for the boy. His body was found around 8 p.m. in Piney Branch Creek at Lawyers Road, the department said in a statement.

Donaldson was a student at the Dominion Christian School in Oakton.

Original, 9:17 p.m. Thursday A child in Vienna died Thursday after being swept away in Vienna's Piney Branch Creek, the Associated Press is reporting.

The 12-year-old boy fell into the creek near Marcliff Court, Fairfax County told the Washington Post. Marcliff Court is a secondary street to Lawyers Road.

Dan Schmidt, spokesman for Fairfax County Fire and Rescue,told the Associated Press that creeks in the county have swollen out of their banks in Thursday's rain.

In another incident at around 7 p.m., police and emergency personnel responded to an apparent drowning of a 67-year-old man. He had been driving his Toyota Yaris in rising waters near Beech Mill Road at Club View Drive.

The man, Arsalan Hakiri, was swept downstream in his car. As he apparently tried to get out, he was swept into the creek and drowned near Carrwood Drive.
