The woman told police while she was eating at Panera Bread, 136 Maple Ave, between 9:30 a.m. and noon, another woman approached her to say she "should pay better attention to her purse."
When the woman left the restaurant, she realized her wallet had been taken.
Similarly, at 12:30 p.m. Feb 15, a woman told police she left her purse on a table while she went to get the food she had ordered.
Later that day, her bank called o ask about a number of charges she'd made on the card, none of which she made herself.
This case is being investigated.
A note from Vienna Police to citizens: "Please do not leave purses or other personal belongings unattended or out of view while shopping or in an eating establishment."
"These are excellent opportunities for individuals to create a distraction and steal an unsuspecting victim’s wallet or other valuables," police said.
