Planning Commission Approves Tower at Thoreau Middle School
Tower will be second cell pole in Vienna
The Fairfax County Planning Commission unanimously approved Milestone Communication's application for a cell tower at Thoreau Middle School last night, the second tower approved on Vienna school property in the last month.
The 115-foot Thoreau tower, colored brown and decorated with artificial leaves and branches to look like a tree, will hold four carriers: AT&T, T-Mobile, Verizon and Clearwire. These carriers would have a total 26 antennas, according to the application, which would be hidden behind the artificial foliage.
Thoreau Middle School becomes the 19th Fairfax County Public School to have a tower on its property, and the pole will be the 24th in the district owned or managed by Milestone.
Thoreau is expected to receive $40,000 in one-time revenue for the installation of the tower and its carriers, and $600 in monthly rent after construction is complete.
