Police Log: Pedestrian Hit On Cottage Street

The following arrest information was supplied by the Vienna Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

Vienna police charged a man with reckless driving last week after he allegedly hit a pedestrian jogging on Yeonas Drive, dragging him along the road for 25 feet.

The driver of the vehicle was travelling westbound along Cottage Street around 6:25 p.m. Feb. 1. The driver told police he believes he stopped at the stop sign for Yeonas Drive and then proceeded down Cottage Street.

While crossing through the intersection, the vehicle struck a pedestrian jogging northbound along Yeonas Drive, dragging him 25 feet. The pedestrian had injuries to his leg and knee, along with road burns on several other portions of his body.

The pedestrian was taken to an area hospital and was expected to recover. He was then transported to an area hospital and is expected to recover.

  • A resident reported sometime between Jan. 19 and 23, someone cut the brake lines to his vehicle parked on Patrick Street SE.
  • Police responded to a call for domestic dispute at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 3 on Orchard Street after a homeowner reported she wanted a relative to leave her home, but he refused to go. Police convinced the man to leave and he was banned from the property.
  • A girl reported at 7:49 a.m. Feb. 4 her parents were arguing at a home on Wilmar Place NW and she was concerned. Police, who said this is an ongoing issue, contacted Fairfax County Child Protective Services to provide assistance in an attempt to remedy the situation. They will follow up on this case.
  • A Cedar Lane resident reported at 11:43 p.m. Feb. 4 that he and his girlfriend were having problems and arguing, and that she also steals from him. Police determined the thefts were in Fairfax County Police Department jurisdiction. Vienna Police counseled the man about both issues.
  •  An usher at Vienna Presbyterian Church reported that between 9 and 9:15 a.m. Feb. 15, her purse and its contents were stolen after being left unattended in the sanctuary.
  • A woman reported between noon Feb. 5 and 3:30 p.m. Feb. 6, the expiration stickers from her vehicle's license plates were stolen from Dogwood Street SW.
  • A resident turned in a credit card she found at 9:59 a.m. at Center and Battle Streets SE. Police contacted the card's owner, who responded to headquarters to retrieve the card.
  • A man reported finding a set of keys at 11:30 a.m. Feb. 6 on Battle Street SW. A short time later the owner of the keys reported to Vienna Police Headquarters and took possession of them.
  • A woman reported at 11:33 a.m. Feb. 6 she was involved in an argument with her mother because she had thrown some food at her mother and then the mother grabbed her arm. Both women were counseled about options available to them.
  • A woman reported that she and her roommate got into an argument about a utility bill at 2:40 p.m. Feb. 6 for their rental property on Yeonas Drive. During the confrontation, the woman's hand was accidentally closed in a door. Both parties were counseled regarding their issues.
  • The owner of Kabob Tavern reported between 10:30 p.m. Feb. 6 and 10 a.m. Feb. 7, someone had attempted to break into the restaurant at 523 Maple Ave W. There was damage to the front door frame but the subject was unable to defeat the locks securing the door.
  • At 7:40 a.m. Feb. 7, Fairfax County EMS summoned police for an unresponsive 82-year-old male that has passed away earlier in the day on Tazewell Road NW. There do not appear to be any signs of foul play.
  • While conducting a traffic stop at 11:52 a.m. Feb. 8 on Courthouse Road SW, police detected the presence of marijuana inside the vehicle. After an investigation, marijuana was found. The driver of the vehicle, Michael Zimmerman, 19, of Fairfax, was charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute. He was issued a summons and released after signing it.
    The passenger, Ashleigh Will, 19, of Vienna, was charged with possession of marijuana. She was issued a summons and released after signing it.
  • A woman reported seeing what she thought was a drug transaction taking place at 11 a.m. Feb. 9 near Meadow Lane Park. Officers located the involved individuals and determined one was showing the other a cell phone. They were apparently discussing the potential sale of the phone.
  • At 3:49 p.m. Feb. 9, police located a woman wanted based upon a summons issued by Fairfax County. The warrant charged Katherine Harris, 87, of Vienna, with trespassing.  She was located at her home. Police served the warrant on Ms. Harris and she signed without incident.
  • Police responded at 4 p.m. Feb. 9 for a disorderly person inside the business Resume Writing, 262 Cedar Lane SE. Their investigation revealed a customer had paid the business to write a resume for him. He was unhappy with the quality of the finished product and wanted his money returned. The officers spoke with the involved parties regarding the civil matter and the customer left without incident.

ARRESTS

While conducting a traffic stop at 2:34 a.m. Feb. 3 near Branch Road and Maple Avenue SE, police suspected the driver might be impaired. After attempting to complete several field sobriety tests Alexandra Monge, 21, of Vienna was arrested for driving while intoxicated. She was then transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center for breath analysis and was formally charged with driving while intoxicated

During a traffic stop at 8:09 a.m. Feb. 4 at Park and Locust Streets SE, police discovered the driver's privilege to drive in Virginia had been revoked. Marlon Javier Centeno- Hernandez, 29, of Vienna, was arrested for the offense and transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center. He was then formally charged and held on a $500.00 bond.

During a traffic stop at 1:01 a.m. Feb. 5 at Maple Avenue and Follin Lane SE, Police noticed the driver seemed impaired. After attempting to complete several field sobriety tests, Raj M. Verma, 38, of Vienna, was arrested for driving while intoxicated. He was then transported to Vienna Police Headquarters for breath analysis. Verma was unable to provide a sufficient breath sample, and was taken to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center. There, he was formally charged with refusal to submit to a breath test and driving while intoxicated.

While conducting a traffic stop at 11:52 p.m. Feb. 6 on Chain Bridge Road, police suspected the driver was impaired. After attempting to complete several field sobriety tests, the 26-year-old female driver was arrested for driving while intoxicated. She was then taken to Vienna Police Headquarters for a breath analysis, but the results were well under the legally intoxicated limit and she was de-arrested. She was then reunited with her vehicle and allowed to continue driving.

A citizen reported at 7:19 p.m. Feb. 6 there was an adult male slumped over his vehicle's steering wheel outside the ABC Store at 436 Maple Avenue E. Police investigated and arrested Craig Etter, 56, of Vienna for drunk in public. He was then taken to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center.
