Police Make Arrests in Serial Burglaries

Three people charged for allegedly taking jewelery, electronics from homes across McLean, Vienna, Falls Church.

Fairfax County police have arrested three people in connection with a series of burglaries that hit homes across three jurisdictions this month — and more charges could be coming, police said Wednesday.

Craig Hopta, 29, Michael Lewis, 29 and Diana Seaborn, 34, all of Maryland, were arrested this week and charged with four counts of burglary, two counts of grand larceny, two counts of larceny for resale, and possession of burglarious tools.

The suspects are connected to a string of burglaries in McLean, Vienna and Falls Church, police said. Aside from the 10 burglaries that occurred in six hours May 4 in McLean, police have not commented on how many homes in total were involved in the spree.

After the May 4 burglaries, officers had been working with detectives from the Town of Vienna Police Department and the City of Falls Church Police Department to develop suspects in the case, police said.

When police responded to McLean again this past Monday for reports of four more burglaries, detectives spotted an unoccupied 2006, silver, Ford Explorer, which they suspected belonged to the alleged burglars.

Detectives set up surveillance on that vehicle, and when the suspects returned to it, they were arrested.

During the suspects' crime spree, they allegedly lifted thousands of dollars worth of jewelery, handbags, electronics, silverware and cash, police said.

Some of those items have been located by detectives, and will be returned to homeowners.

Additional charges are likely as police continue the investigation and link the suspects to more burglaries, the department said Wednesday.
