Readers' Choice: Best Dance Studio in Vienna

Vote for your favorite company

Many children are enrolled in dance classes at one point or another -- and along the way their parents might even pick up a step or two.

We want to know where the kids (or you!) enroll in dance classes, and why.

We’ll keep accepting nominations through July 9. After that, nominations will be closed and we’ll start the voting, so make sure to get in your favorites now.

All you need to do to nominate a business is add a name in the comments below.

If you already see the business you want to nominate, make sure to add your comment about why it should be included. We may not be able to add all nominations to our poll, so make sure your favorite makes the cut.

The assertion within the posted comment from the person calling themselves "Mickey Mouse the Third Like a Boss" seems highly suspect, for a multitude of reasons. I highly doubt that it has any basis in reality, and I hope that the readers will see right through it.

I vote for Elegant Dancing. Lee and Chris are two of the best instructors that I have ever seen. Their many years of experience combined with excellent teaching skills and their pure love and passion for dance set them apart from any other instructor I have seen. They both have a great sense of humor which really comes out in their lessons. Lee and Chris will help you overcome any fears you have about dancing and make dancing fun and a part of your life.

Elegant Dancing is the place to go for Ballroom lessons and open dances. What makes the studio extra special is the fact that the owners: Lee and Chris are two of the best instructors in the Washington metropolitan area!

Elegant Dancing is a winning combination of the talented Una Lee and Chris Thompson. If learning to dance is on your "bucket list", and you've been putting it off- DON'T! Lee & Chris are passionate about their craft--they teach it in a manner that you are have fun, while learning from the best.

Cuppett's is family owned/run, and has been in business 50 years. They have a large and extremely talented/dedicated staff, several of which have been teaching for 30 years +. Some of the teachers have college degrees, but all the teachers are required to have certification. It's like a large family there, and all the children feel safe/secure, and have a fun time learning the art of dance. There are many different disciplines to choose from (ballet, tap, lyrical, jazz, hip-hop, character, theatre--and a few more!), and there are adult and teen classes offered, as well. I am a Vienna native, and I've never even heard of Elegant dancing. Was that a re-name? I took classes at Cuppett's throughout my childhood, and my children also attended. I wouldn't dream of sending anyone anywhere else! Too much love and experience there to pass up!

Cuppetts! It is a second home, and second family, to my girls. It is a true family business that operates according to family values. The studio was founded by one of the strongest, gentlest, and kindest ladies you could ever hope to know. The dance training is excellent.

Cuppets is amazing because everybody is so nice and they make me love to dance. Outside of the studio i barely ever stop moving my feet to a new dance position. They make me wanna never stop dancing! And all the teachers are great at teaching and dancing. They are all basically my dancing mentors! They are also very well organized each year. And welcome new dancers with open arms! I would never think of dancing at a different studio!!

Cuppett Performing Arts - a Vienna Institution for 50 years. The studio's instructors are experienced, dedicated, and caring. There is a wide selection of classes for all age levels. The studio is well-run, spacious, and a 'second home' for students. My daughters have danced at Cuppetts for more than 13 years and have developed not only a love for dance but also self- confidence and grace. I recommend Cuppetts to everyone.

Cuppetts hands down. A warm family environment with excellent teachers and staff. Very professional presentation. Amazing talent. They provide an educational, structured classes with a large variety of age and ability in many different styles. We have always had fun dancing at Cuppetts. An amazing experience for our family for two generations. They are in a class all their own. They set the bar for the overall dancing experience.

Although it takes me three times as long to get there, I have followed Una Lee to Vienna when she (and Chris Thompson) opened Elegant Dancing. She has cajoled me to actually start dancing. She always makes me laugh and I feel more comfortable on a dance floor. Although I have not received instruction from Chris, judging from the steps of his clients, he is equally talented. I am just a neophyte, but these two have the knowledge/ability to work with all levels. I have enjoyed watching them work with some very skilled dancers before and after my sessions.
I recommend them highly! Henry McEntee

It seems to me that these two institutions should not really be in the same category. Cuppetts (from its website) offers lessons in many forms of dance, and presumably the students put on a show periodically. It does not appear to offer lessons in social partner dancing -- which Elegant Dancing does. Elegant Dancing also offers the opportunity to engage in social dancing several times each week for students and anyone else who wants to come. The instructors are excellent, and everyone has been friendly and helpful -- even the first time I went and knew no one. You don't need to bring a partner as most of the dancers change partners and dance with everyone. As I see it, each studio fills a different need quite well. I voted for Elegant Dancing because it fills MY need and does it so well! I don't know of any other place in Vienna that offers an opportunity to social dance on a regular basis several times each week.

I vote for Elegant Dancing! I've never heard of Cuppetts but I dance at Elegant Dancing which is a fun, friendly place. Lee, Chris and Alex are wonderful instructors. Not only do they teach you to dance in a studio but also at social venues in the community. They sponsor practice parties Wednesday and Friday, as well as the second Saturday of the month, and usually a monthly outing as well.

What about Vienna's other dance studios? My vote would be for Linda Carol's School of Dance. She has run this business in Vienna for over 40 years. And she gives so much back to the community. We love Linda Carol!

These two dance studios are so very different that it's strange to see them pitted against one another. One is a classic dance studio teaching multiple styles such as ballet, tap, jazz, and more mainly to children (although they are offering some classes in those same styles for adults now as well), whereas the other teaches social/ballroom dancing to adults. Apples to oranges; these should have been separate categories for the polls, it seems to me.
