Small Fire Causes Delays On Orange Line

Smoldering tie at Vienna Metro cause of Thursday incident.

Update 6:45 p.m.: Trains are now running on a normal schedule, according to Metro.

Original: A small fire on the tracks at the Vienna Metro station is causing some delays for Thursday evening commuters.

The Fairfax County Fire Department was doing an inspection out on the track when they saw a smoldering tie, a Metro spokesperson said.

It caused several small fires along the track. A Fairfax County dispatcher said they were nearly put out around 5:45 p.m.

Shuttles arrived to take passengers between the Vienna, Dunn Loring and West Falls Church Metro stations, the Metro spokesperson said around 5:50 p.m.

Service was restored around 6 p.m., but there continue to be some delays in both directions.
