Power outages on Thursday, Friday morning caused by underground equipment failure

Two separate power outages in Tysons Corner darkened local businesses on Thursday afternoon and Friday morning, Dominion Power Virginia confirms.
The power outage at Tysons Galleria on Thursday afternoon affected 33 customers, mainly restaurants.
"We found underground equipment that had failed," Dominion spokeswoman Le-Ha Anderson said. "Restoration was delayed slightly because we could not access the equipment due to a fence that had been build around it. By midnight, we were able to restore power to all customers."
In a separate incident at 8 a.m. Friday, a power outage on Leesburg Pike affected customers in the Westwood building.
"Crews are on site now making repairs to an underground cable and we expect to have power restored by noon," Anderson said.

My office at 1604 Spring Hill Road lost power. The building next to us at 1608 did not have power either. Dominion indicated to us at 10 am that all would be fixed by noon. I had my doubts so I stopped by at 2 pm to give them some more time. The Dominion trucks were still there and none of the buildings within the Tysons Pond complex at the end of Spring Hill Rd had power...time to improvise.
We held client meetings outside and basked in the 80 degree heat, worked the batteries of our cell phones and laptops to failure and navigated through the building via candlelight. I'm not sure everyone thought so, but for me it was a most welcome "unscheduled break".
