Vienna Voters Choose Allen, Perkins

Precinct by precinct results for GOP Primaries

About 71 percent of voters at Vienna precincts gave their support to former Virginia Gov. George Allen in the Republican primary Tuesday for the state's open U.S. Senate seat, falling in line with the majority support for Allen across Virginia.

Allen, who will now face Tim Kaine (D) in November, also won Fairfax County with about 65.4 percent of the vote.

The win came despite a low voter turount in Vienna and across Virginia: fewer than 5.1 percent of active voters statewide cast ballots on Tuesday. In Fairfax County, the average was about 5.4 percent.

The turnout was only slightly higher than the state and county averages of about 5 percent for March's Republican Presidential Primary.

In Vienna, turnout varied from precinct to precinct.

Flint Hill and Wolftrap again saw the highest turnout among Vienna-area precincts, with 8.5 and 8 percent of the active voter population casting ballots, respectively.

Those precincts, however, were exceptions to turnout elsewhere in Vienna, which hovered between 3 and 6 percent.

Newly-formed Precinct 204 again had the fewest amount of votes, with 46, about 5.3 percent of its registered voters. The Tysons Precinct had the lowest percentage of voters turn out, with 1.93 percent.

About 66.6 percent of Vienna voters put their weight behind Chris Perkins in the 11th Congressional District Race -- just more than the 62.49 percent the veteran received countywide.

No Vienna-area precincts had a majority of support for Perkins' challenger, Ken Vauhn.

Perkins, who received an endorsement from former Congressman Tom Davis, will face incumbent Gerry Connolly (D) in November.

A look at how the candidates stacked up across Vienna:

Let us hope that minorities in Virginia will remember Allen's "macaca" comments of the last campaign and keep him out of office once again.
