This Day in Baseball History
5/28/1951: Willie Mays gets his first of 3,283 hits, a home run off of future Hall of Famer Warren Spahn. Mays would go on to hit 20 home runs and bat .274 en route to the Rookie of the Year award, while Spahn would go 22-14 with a 2.98 ERA.
Derek Jeter passed George Brett on the all time hit list with hit #3,155, moving to 14th place on the all time list. Next up is Cal Ripken Jr., who is 29 hits ahead at 3,184.
Orioles signed Adam Jones to a six-year, $85.5 million contract extension ($14.25 million per season). Jones also extended his hitting streak to 18 games.
The Reds and Rockies combined to hit nine home runs in a 7-5 Reds win at Great American Ballpark, the most home runs hit in any game at that stadium. All five of the Rockies' runs came off of solo home runs.
