@JamJavaDoorGal's Local Scene Show with Lexie Hayden, Adam Bruno, Drew Stevyns, and Eli Staples: Local artists will take the stage at Jammin' Java Wednesday night at 7:30 p.m. This week's show features local singer and songwriter Lexie Hayden. 

Last Chance to Submit Entries to the Fairfax County Library Essay and Poetry Contest: Rising 7th, 8th, and 9th grade students are eligible to enter the Fairfax County Library Essay and Poetry Contest. Cash prizes will be awarded to the top three winners. Those interested should act fast — the deadline is Aug. 31. 

Celebrate National Dog Day at the Fairfax County Animal Shelter: Bring the family to the Fairfax County Animal Shelter and meet shelter volunteers and adoptable pets. The shelter will offer fee-waived adoptions on dogs and puppies Saturday and Sunday.  Click here for more information.

Free Concert at Nottoway Park Thursday: Don't miss singer-songwriter Cheryl Wheeler's show at Nottoway Park in Vienna, Va. She has been called a “natural storyteller with a fantastic sense of humor.” The concert starts at 7:30 p.m. Thursday.
