Town Hall Renovations Continue, Helicopter Heroes Honored — And Have You Paid Your Taxes?

Busy week? Five things to know about Vienna and Fairfax County government and politics.

1. Don't mind that dust — the Vienna Town Hall is still undergoing renovations. The town has moved all financial services to the annex behind Town Hall. Planning and zoning, public works and information technology are the first floor; administrative services are on the second. Find more information here. 

2. Members of the Fairfax County Police Departments helicopter unit recently received the annual Gus Crawford Air Crew of the Year Award. The unit received the award July 20 for the rescue of two missing boys in Spotsylvania.

3. More than 90 people who were homeless were able to move into permanent housing in May 2013, the county reported last week. According to data from the Homeless Management Information System, 24 families and 25 single adults moved from shelters and transitional housing into more permanent facilities. 

4. In case you missed it, the county’s real estate tax deadline for residents who don’t have the real estate tax included in their mortgage payment is Monday, July 29 from July 28. Call the Town of Vienna at (703) 255-6325 if you have issues or Pay Your Vienna Tax Bill Online

5. Virginians can now register to vote and update their existing registration online through the Virginia State Board of Elections. The SBE launched the system this week, the result of House Bill 2341, which the General Assembly passed in February. To complete the process, voters will need their Virginia Driver’s License or DMV identification card.
