Special Reception At Vienna Arts Society
The Vienna Arts Society presents walls of giant puzzles created by assembling 12” puzzle pieces. Each piece is an original artwork featuring a drawing, painting or collage. Dozens of artists have works on display.
The featured puzzle, entitled “The Healing Wall”, consists of pieces created by soldiers recovering at the Fort Belvoir Community Hospital. Artists from the Vienna Arts Society spent several two-hour sessions with the troops, arriving at the hospital armed with blank puzzle pieces and a variety of elements needed to paint and collage on them. Most of the soldiers had little experience with creating art, and yet as they began putting paint onto the puzzle pieces they discovered their own inner artist. Each piece makes a powerful statement by itself as well as part of the larger puzzle. As one Vienna Arts Society member noted, "These artists are so brave to put this work out there. It has been a true honor to spend time with them."
