Real estate and the cost of living in Northern Virginia are among the highest in the country—but so are salaries.

Fairfax County is the fourth wealthiest county in the country, according to a new list released by the U.S. Census Bureau. Median family income here was $124,831 in 2012.

That’s about $12,500 less than in Arlington County, the wealthiest county in the country, where median family income was $137,216.

Loudoun County came in second at $127,192. Howard County, Md., came in third place at $125,192.
