August is Immunization Awareness Month in Fairfax County and it is also a good time to double check vaccine requirements so children can go to school.
"Immunizations for children really helps protect them from getting the serious side effects from a vaccine preventable disease," said Michelle Milgrim, Fairfax County Health Department’s Director of Patient Care Services. "It also helps protect our community".
Fairfax County is offering free vaccines during extended hours at the county's five clinics. For locations, click here.
Free physicals and immunizations are also available for low income families in Fairfax County by appointment at HealthWorks for Northern Virginia in Herndon. "You cannot go to school without these immunizations. This is designed for families who do not have health insurance, so kids can go to school," Caroline Toye, Development Manager at HealthWorks for Northern Virginia.
