Honoring Fallen Soldiers: CrossFit Rubicon Hosts 31Heroes Project Saturday

Crossfit boxes in Vienna, Northern Virginia will sponsor a workout dedicated to 31 Americans killed in action in Afghanistan.

Across the nation, thousands of people will gather Saturday for a workout to honor 31 Americans killed in action in Afghanistan two years ago.

The WOD (Workout of the Day) — called the 31Heroes Project — is designed to be 31 minutes long in remembrance of each hero.  The workout is designed to be completed with a partner, a tribute to the fact that the soldiers who gave their lives were from multiple branches of the military working together as a team.

CrossFit Rubicon, in the Tysons area of Vienna, is one of the area locations participating in the 31Heroes Project.

Rubicon, a box that has coaches on staff who are veteran amputees,  is  dedicated to working with permanently injured civilians and wounded veterans, said Dave "Chef" Wallach, who owns CrossFit Rubicon with his wife Hronn.

"We are happy to support this cause and raise money for our fallen heroes," Wallach said. "We celebrate the sacrifice of people who protect our freedoms and 31 Heroes is part of what we do," Wallach added.

Wallach said those who serve and sacrifice deserve more and "these athletes raise the bar so high and have the capacity to do more".

Other local participating locations include CrossFit Reston and CrossFit Fairfax, among others.
