First Snow of 2014: Latest Vienna Closings, Outage Information

Virginia officials warn of potentially icy roads Friday morning thanks to the winter storm that has brought snow to the greater Washington area, including Vienna.

The expected snow left a winter wonderland Thursday night across Northern Virginia, but looks can be deceiving: Be careful walking and driving! 

Metrorail: Orange/Blue delays at 9 a.m. according to Dr. Gridlock, to Vienna & Franconia because of earlier train malfunction at Rosslyn.

Flight Delays: Check the MWAA Web site for Dulles and Reagan National.

The federal government will be open Friday, according to the Office of Personnel Management. Federal employees have the option of using unscheduled leave or unscheduled telework.

Town Offices Open, Liberal Leave in Effect; Vienna Community Center Classes Cancelled, January 3

Town offices are open and observing normal operating hours on Friday, Jan. 3, 2014, with liberal leave in effect for non-essential personnel. Employees wishing to use liberal leave should contact their supervisor. Essential Town employees should report to work as scheduled.

Classes and programs scheduled at the Vienna Community Center for Friday, Jan. 3, have been cancelled due to inclement weather. For event rentals, please contact the event organizer for schedule information. The building will be open and observing normal business operating hours.

SCHOOLS: Fairfax County Public Schools were already scheduled to be closed this week for the holidays, with students returning to school Monday, Jan. 6. 

All activities scheduled in Fairfax County public schools or on school grounds for Friday, Jan. 3, are canceled, including: 

  • extracurricular activities
  • interscholastic contests
  • team practices
  • field trips
  • middle school after-school programs
  • professional learning and training courses            
  • all adult and community education classes
  • recreation programs and community use by outside groups not affiliated with FCPS

School Age Child Care (SACC) centers are closed.

Offices are open with an unscheduled leave policy in effect.


ROADS: Town of Vienna crews are monitoring the impact of the winter weather that is passing through the area. Use caution when driving as icy conditions may exist. If you see any downed trees or power lines in public rights-of-ways, please report them to the Town of Vienna Police non-emergency line at (703) 255-6366.

  • Stay away from downed lines and call Dominion Virginia Power to report lines down in your area. Do not try to drive over or around downed lines.
