Get Out: Patch's Pick-and-Choose Weekend Planner 4/8 to 4/10

Need a few ideas to get your weekend going? Look no further.

It’s Thursday. The weekend is so close you can almost taste it. Downside? You’ve got no idea what to do during your two days of freedom.

Patch is coming to the rescue. We've picked out some of the best events around Fairfax County for your done-work-outta-here time. Is it 5 p.m. on Friday yet?

Vienna Volunteer Fire Department's Annual Spring Bazaar

Where/When: , 400 Center Street S., Vienna from 10 a.m to 4 p.m. on Saturday

Why go:  The bazaar  features crafts and home based businesses,which will sell be crafts, holiday decorations, home items and gift. There will also be homemade lunch and baked goods, as well as several raffles. Plus, proceeds go toward fire and rescue equipment that could help save you or a family member someday. Where/When: 2505 Cedar Lane (Thoreau Middle School)/ Today, Friday and Saturday at 7:30 p.m., with another matinee at 3 p.m. Saturday.

Why: See local students as they present their rendition of "Once Upon a Mattress," the merry musical re-telling of the classic fairy tale “The Princess and the Pea.”

Price: All tickets are $5 and at the door, but arrive early as shows do sell out.  You can also reserve tickets in advance at ThoreauDrama@gmail.com.

Why Go: Have your dancing shoes been staring at you from the closet? Here's your chance to give them some love. Bonus: There's going to be a giant panda handing out glowsticks. (We don't know why, but it sounds cool).

Appalacian Great Pyrenees Rescue Day

Where/When:, from noon to 4 p.m. on Saturday

Why Go: If you've been waiting to adopt that family pet, here's your chance. The Artful Gift Shop is opening its parking lot for the AGPR on Saturday. Even if you're not adopting, it's worth the trip to see some adorable pups. To see pictures and learn more about the dogs, click here.

Opening Reception for "Seeing Things in Black And White"

Where/When: Vienna Art Center 115 Pleasant St., NW, 2 to 4 p.m. on Saturday

Why Go: Armando Meschieri and Teresa Ahmad -- director of the center-- kick off their exhibition of Pen and Ink Renderings, which will be on display until April 30. For more information, visit the exhibition website.

Price: Free

Potomac Watershed Clean-up Day

Where/When: , Glyndon Street, NE entrance. from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday.

Why Go: From the Town's website "Help get the Potomac trash free by participating in Potomac Watershed Clean-up Day. No registration required. Rain date is Saturday, April 16. Click here for more information."

Price: Free

 

Where/When: This year's games will take place at Oakton High School, Madison High School, Nottoway Park, and Stratton Wood Park; April 8-10

Why Go: Watch premier teams from the area face off in a benefit for the Oakton High baseball program.

Pricing: Open to all

Where/When: , 3999 University Dr., Fairfax. Friday, 8 p.m.

Why Go: "Enjoy an evening of jazz at Old Town Hall."

Pricing: Open to all.

Where/When: , 1700 Tysons Blvd, McLean. Friday, 6 p.m to 11:30 p.m.

Why Go: There will be cocktails, live music, a live and a silent auction and dinner at the annual McLean Orchestra Gala. It will also give you an opportunity to dust off that tux and take your best girl out on the town.

Pricing: Ticket prices start at $250.

Shane Hines at Dogfish Head Alehouse

Where/When: , Falls Church. Saturday, 9:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m.

Why Go: Round out your weekend with a few speciality beers and live music at Dogfish Head Alehouse.

Pricing: Show is free to attend; food and beer prices vary.
