The National Endowment for the Arts(NEA) awarded a $50,000 to the Arts Council of Fairfax County to help fund public art projects near new Silver Line Metro stations in Tysons.

Grant money will go towards Imagine Art Here, an effort to get community input for public art in Tysons. Under the project, a temporary, portable piece of public art would be designed and moved around to different locations to start a conversation about what role public art should play in Tysons.

The project will be installed at four locations close to the Silver Line stations over a one-year period to collect feedback from as many people as possible. A panel of experts will select an artist for the project.

The Arts Council has partnered with county government and theTysons Partnership to carry out the project.

“Tysons is a progressive and rapidly growing community, and provides a perfect intersection for art and urban life,” said Linda S. Sullivan, president and CEO of the Arts Council, in a statement. “The Imagine Art Here initiative will enable the residents in Tysons and Fairfax County to provide their ideas and preferences for the inclusion of public art and arts amenities in the future development of Tysons.”

A timeline for the project was not immediately available, but the Silver Line’s opening has been pushed back.
