Large Tree Takes Down Power Lines on Vienna's Moore Avenue

Police have blocked off Moore Avenue to traffic and pedestrians.

A local street is blocked in Vienna Thursday after a large tree fell across Moore Avenue, according to Patch reader Fran Griffin.

The tree fell completely across Moore Avenue, near Park Street SE, sometime around 2 p.m on Thursday.

Griffin, a resident of Vienna, reports that the tree suddenly fell over on Moore Avenue, taking down power, cable and phone lines.

"It went completely across the street, hitting a mail box on the other side of the street," she noted, in an email to Patch.

"Its top branches, still flourishing with green leaves, wound up in a driveway across the street. No one was hurt, which was fortunate as many school children were in the area at the time," she said.

Thursday afternoon, Moore Avenue was totally blocked by the tree, which was approximately 40 feet high.

Live wires were hanging from the one electrical pole that the tree took down, and police have blocked the street to pedestrian traffic as well.
