After the three-day holiday weekend is over Monday, the Tuesday morning commute back to work and school could get messy, according to weather forecasts.

On the way: A possible 2 inches of snow on Tuesday, beginning between 7 to 9 a.m. for the DC area, according to NBC-4 meteorologist Amelia Segal's weather report Sunday night.

The Capital Weather Gang tweeted Sunday night: "We'll issue a snow accumulation forecast for Tues tomorrow, but at least an inch or two seems a good bet around DC."

And for the rest of the week? Get ready for another arctic blast. The National Weather Service forecasts sub-freezing temperatures for Northern Virginia beginning Tuesday, when the high will be 29 degrees, a 20-degree drop from Monday. Wednesday morning could see wind chills of 10 below zero. Temperatures won't get above freezing until the weekend.

So get out Monday and enjoy "warmer" temperatures while you can. The NWS forecasts the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday to be mostly sunny with a high of 48 degrees. Monday night, temperatures begin to dip, going down into the 20s. Temperatures are expected to stay in that range during the day Tuesday when winds pick up as well, to about 17 MPH.

The National Weather Service forecasts a 70 percent chance of snow for Tuesday; as of Sunday night, models showed it could either be nothing, a dusting or several inches. "We're looking at accumulating snow," said NBC-4 meteorologist Amelia Segal Sunday night.

The Weather Channel forecasts an 80 percent chance of snow Tuesday, with an accumulation of 1 inch of snow.

Doug Kammerer, chief meteorologist for NBC-4 tweeted: "#Snow chances look to be going up for Tuesday."
