Relay for Life Coming to Vienna in June

American Cancer Society event coming June 1 to 2 to the Town Green.

Come June, the Town Green will be filled with thousands of Northern Virginia residents raising awareness for cancer research.

The American Cancery Society will bring its Relay for Life  — an overnight community walk in which fundraising teams take turns doing laps or loops for cancer awareness — to the Green from June 1 to 2.

Vienna's Town Council approved the event at its Monday meetings.

In the past, the event has been held at Madison or Oakton High schools, among other locations across the county and region.

ACS said it is "trying to make it more community involved and believe that hosting at a Town park may help," according to town documents.

The event will kick off at 3 p.m. June 1 and last until 7 a.m. June 2. There is no set rain date, according to the memorandum of agreement signed Monday by the council.

Set-up will begin at noon June 1 and take-down will last until 9 a.m. June 2.

ACS will be responsible for abiding by Vienna's noise ordinance, as well as any fees for additional Vienna Police presence.

The society will also present a parking plan to the Town Council a month before the event is set to begin.

It's not clear exactly what route attendees will take to complete their laps.

Sign-up is already available on the American Cancer Society website.
