Search For 'Buddy' Continues

Rhonda Kauf Gleditsch and her family adopted Buddy, a black lab mix with a white patch on his chest and a small white stripe under his chin, at an adoption event on Saturday.

On Sunday, he was gone.

The 2-year-old, 80 pound dog is "very sweet, but skittish with strangers" because of his background, Gelditsch wrote. He broke loose from the family as they walked in Dunn Loring Woods on Sunday. He was only wearing a blue nylon collar and leash -- with less than 24 hours in his new home, there had yet to be time for tags.

With nearly a week since that walk, most families would begin to assume the worst. But for Gleditsch, there's hope: Buddy has been seen several times around the Dunn Loring Metro area.

Construction workers saw him on Wednesday and tried to catch him, but the young dog was too quick, she said. He headed back down Gallows and over the bridge above Rt. 66.

On Friday night, Gleditsch got another call, placing Buddy across Gallows Road on Stenhouse Place. A construction worker said he last saw him heading onto that street earlier in the week.

Gleditsch suspects Buddy might be living in that area, or near the W&OD trail and Idylwood Road neighborhoods.
