Summer Stories and Sprinklers to Conclude Wednesday

The weekly summer event features picture books at the Little Library and sprinklers on the Town Green.

For seven weeks this summer Historic Vienna Inc. has hosted Summer Stories and Sprinklers- a unique event for local families in the heart of the town's historic district.

The concept is simple: read good books and spend an afternoon in the sun running through sprinklers on the town lawn.

Each Wednesday at 1 p.m., Historic Vienna Inc. chooses a different picture book to read aloud with the group at the Historic Vienna Little Library. By 1:30, the kids make their way to the Green to cool off with sprinklers all throughout the lawn.

However, Summer Stories and Sprinklers is set to conclude for the summer on Wednesday Aug. 7, giving local families one last chance to take in the festivities.

The event is free and appropriate for all ages, but the books are typically aimed toward preschool-aged children according to Kirstyn Barr, Public Information Officer for the town of Vienna. Barr also noted that some weeks the group reading is followed by a sing-along featuring songs on the guitar.

The event begins at 1 p.m. at the Little Library, located behind the Freeman Store at 131 Church Street NE. The sprinklers will last until 2 p.m.
