This Week: Candidate Forums, Budget Markup

Events, deadlines, meetings in Vienna

It's April and you know what that means : It's budget season.

The Vienna Town Council will hold another mark-up session of the FY 2012 budget at 7:30 p.m. tonight in Town Hall. It's open to the public. You can find a copy of the budget here.The council will hold more work sessions and public hearings based on the following schedule:

  • Mon, May 9: Public Hearing on Proposed Budget, 8 p.m., Town Council Meeting, Town Hall
  • Mon, May 16: Budget Work Session (Discussion of Public Hearing Comments) 8 p.m., Town Hall
  • Mon, June 6: Public Hearing on the proposed tax rate, 8 p.m., Town Council Meeting, Town Hall

The Fairfax County Board of Supervisors will hold a markup session on beginning  at 10 a.m. April 12 at the Fairfax County Government Center. The county will adopt a budget on April 26.

Get to know at two candidate forums this week. The candidates are running for three open seats. Residents will have a chance to listen to platforms and answer questions at the forums, held at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday and at 7:30 p.m. on Friday at the Community Center.

Celebrate Vienna's volunteers at 7:30 p.m. April 12 in the Flame Room at the Volunteer Fire Department, when the Mayor's Advisory Committee hosts a special recognition ceremony "to honor individuals who have dedicated their time and talents to our community."

The VMCC to "support a drug-free school and community" at 7 p.m. at James Madison High School. Parents and community members are invited to hear about how they can become involved.

Did you miss the film Race to Nowhere when it came to Madison High School in February? Here's your chance to watch it again. The film comes to Marshall High School  at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Tickets are $10 in advance or $15 at the door.
