Three Vienna Teams to Compete in Dulles Plane Pull Saturday

Each team will pull a plane 12 feet during the Dulles Day Festival Saturday.

Three teams from Vienna will flex their muscles at the Dulles Plane Pull on Saturday.

Local Special Olympics program Area 26, NuAxis Innovations, and Phi Sigma Kappa will attempt to pull a 82-ton FedEx cargo jet 12 feet. The plane pull started in 1992 as the first event of its kind in the country. Teams of 25 people compete to see who can use a rope to pull the jet 12 feet in the shortest amount of time.

The Plane Pull is a part of Dulles Day, which consists of a series of family-friendly events at Dulles airport. This year's event includes a 5K run, current and vintage aircraft displays, a classic car show, a pizza eating contest, airfield tours, and a K-9 demonstration.

Proceeds from Dulles Day benefit local charities, including Special Olympics Virginia. Although admission and parking to Dulles Day remain free of charge, opportunities will be available onsite for patrons to make cash donations to benefit Special Olympics Virginia.

Dulles Day has raised more than $1.5 million for Special Olympics Virginia since it began.

For more information or to make a donation, visit planepull.com or call 703-359-4301. Dulles Day takes place Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
