Vienna Oktoberfest 2013: Beer, Wine, Food

Meet this year's burgermeister and wein richter.

Oktoberfest is this Saturday, Oct. 5 along historic Church Street in Vienna.

Vienna’s Oktoberfest Burgermeister Greg Bernhard says he’s “ready for brats, strudel, beer and polka (not too much polka).”

He’s also ready for the beer. As the festival’s official beer connoisseur, Bernhard joked, “I consider my appointment to Burgermeister as the crowning achievement of my life.” Bernhard is a Rotarian, Vice Chair of the Town Business Liaison Committee (TBLC) and a member of the Virginia Business Association.

Bernhard will be joined by Wein Richter Mark Schmidt, a Vienna resident and U.S. Air Force member who will be judging the wines at this year’s Oktoberfest. Schmidt has experience attending several German Oktoberfests and owns a home in German’s Mosel wine region.

In addition, there will be dozens of food vendors along historic Church Street and Dominion Road. Food options include crab, burgers, pizza, barbecue and more.
