Viewfinder: Vienna Honors Volunteers

We are always on the prowl in our communities for great photos and local stories. This week, we captured the town's Volunteer Recognition Day.

When you look around town, what do you see?

Every week, we'll highlight people, places and events around Vienna in this spot.

This week, we captured a special meeting of the Mayor's Advisory Committee as it held its annual Volunteer Recognition Day on Tuesday in the Flame Room of the Vienna Volunteer Fire Department.

The annual ceremony celebrates and promotes volunteerism in Vienna. Each year, residents have a chance to nominate friends, neighbors or family members who they believe have made a difference in Vienna through their outstanding volunteering.

“Volunteering of one’s time and resources is a fundamental part of the tradition of our country and is essential to its spirit," Mayor Jane Seeman said in a proclamation.  "The people of our community benefit from the deeds of these selfless and dedicated individuals and organizations.”

Residents who were honored include:

  • Tana Keeffe, who won the Carole Wolfand Community Service Award, which is given each year to a town business or business owner in recognition of "outstanding contributions to the community life and spirit of Vienna." The award is given by the Town/Business Liaison Committee
