Weekend Guide 5/13 to 5/15

Summer On The Green begins; an acoustic brunch; another chance for spring cleaning at The Soundry

The Summer On The Green Concert Series kicks off on Friday, and welcomes a different group to the stage each day throughout the weekend.

On Friday, the series begins with a 6:30 p.m. performance from the U.S. Navy Band Commodores; Mayor Jane Seeman hosts "The Music of Vienna" on Saturday at noon; and Mama Tried - Bluegrass will take the stage at 6:30 p.m. on Sunday. All concerts are held on the Vienna Town Green, 144 Maple Avenue E.

Performances will run every Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday through August 21, and begin at 6:30 p.m. unless a different time is noted on the schedule. Make sure to bring blankets and chairs; alcohol and pets are  not permitted.

FRIDAY

Hawaii Luau For Teens

Why Go: Join other Vienna Teens at Club Phoenix for a Hawaiian-themed gathering.
Price: Free

Chad Dukes and Danny Rouhier from 106.7 The Fan + After-Party
Where: , 227 Maple Ave E, Vienna
When: 9:30pm
Why Go: Dukes is a Northern Virginia native, graduating from Lake Braddock Secondary School before starting his radio career during college at GMU. Now, he works for CBS Washington. Danny Rouhier is becoming one of the country's most popular standup comedians in the country. Together, they'll offer some much-needed laughs after a long week.

SATURDAY

W&OD Trail Garden 30th Anniversary Celebration
Where: Intersection of the W&OD Trail and Maple Avenue (near Whole Foods)
When: 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Speaking program at 10 a.m.
Why Go: Join the Ayr Hill Garden Club as it celebrates three decades of stewardship over the garden at the intersection of the trail and Vienna's main avenue. Mayor Jane Seeman will speak at 10 a.m., but members will be there throughout the day to answer questions and provide more information.

Variety/Rummage Sale
Where: , 120 Cherry St SE, Vienna, VA 22180
When: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Why Go: Friends of Homeless Animals shelter hosts this fundraiser sale, which will feature antiques, jewlery, crystal, china, dishes, clothing, crafts, books, DVDs and more. They're accepting donations too: Just pull your car up to the community center between 1 and 9 p.m. Friday and volunteers will help unload your items. Madison High School Casino Night and Silent Auction
Where: , 800 Maple Ave E, Vienna
When:  7 to 11 p.m.
Why Go: It's "Woodstock at Westwood" at this year's annual athletic booster club fundraiser. There will be a casino games and a silent action, with all proceeds goign toward construction costs of the new snack bar and facilities that were dedicated last yea. SUNDAY


Where: , 227 Maple Ave E, Vienna
When: 2 to 4 p.m.
Why Go: Rethink the way you do bruch with live acoustic music, and a special brunch menu that features bagels & lox, fruit, quiche, assorted muffins and pastries, bloody mary's, mimosas and screwdrivers. The Sketches are based in Washington, D.C., and have performed with Feist, Gomez, Army of Me (Atlantic Records) and David Gray.

Spring Cleaning Swap At The Soundry
Where: , 316 Dominion Road NE, Vienna
When: Noon to five
Why Go: Did spring cleaning come and go without taking all of last year's junk with it? Bring your books, knick knacks, clothes, toys and other items to the Soundry, where the policy is "Leave a little, take a little. Leave a lot, take a lot." All leftover items will be donated to the Committee for Helping Others.
