Art show reception, neighborhood herb exchange come to town

With a sunny (and cooler) forecast on Friday and Saturday, it looks like a perfect weekend (much more enjoyable than last weekend's record heat) to tackle some of your favorite outdoor activities.

FRIDAY

Bring your lawn chairs to the Town Green for another Summer On The Green Concert Series. The Four Star Combo- Rockability takes the stage at 6:30 p.m.

"Future is a genre-melting hip-hop infused progressive rock band; featuring two extraordinary guitarists, a stellar rhythm section, vibrant young front-man and a phenomenal female vocalist/instrumentalist named Candice Mills," says Jammin' Java. See them at 10 p.m. at Jammin' Java.

SATURDAY

After taking a week off for Viva!Vienna, returns from 8 a.m. to noon in the Caboose Parking lot, at the intersection of Church Street NE and the W&OD trail. This week, there will be a balloon man for the kids from 8 to 10:30 a.m., and giveaways for graduates of all ages. They will also be collecting  nonperishable food items at the entrance in blue bins.

Has your basil plant gotten out of hand? Did you plant too much sage, rosemary, mint?  and trade with your neighbors.  The current list of herbs at this event:  mint, parsley, sage, rosemary, chives, garlic chives. There will be complimentary Complimentary snacks, drinks and recipes will be provided.

Bring your lawn chairs to the Town Green for another Summer On The Green Concert Series. "Teen Tunes on the Green" is featured Saturday afternoon. No Admittance will take the stage at 2 p.m., In Laymans Terms will take the stage at 3 p.m. and Nocturnal Rush plays at 4 p.m.

The Shepherd's Center of Oakton-Vienna  in collaboration with the  Vienna Art Society  is hosting a "Meet the Artist"More than 50 local artist have donated original artwork to benefit  the Shepherd's Center, which provides both services and enrichment to local seniors.  There will also be a jewelry boutique with hand made items for sale." The exhibit is open from 10 to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday, until June 25.

Sunday

Celebrate the lively sounds of Louisiana at Wolf Trap’s 22nd Annual Louisiana Swamp Romp. At 2 p.m., listen to Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue, Sonny Landreth, Geno Delafose & French Rockin’ Boogie, and Steve Riley & The Mamou Playboys. Tickets are $25.

Do you have a favorite pet?  From 2 to 4 p.m., bring them to the Antioch Christian Church for a pet blessing and a gift.
