Peter Mulvey 6th Annual Bicycle Tour + Anne Heaton CD Release

For the past six Septembers, Peter Mulvey has done a tour by bicycle, traveling from gig to gig with just a guitar and a saddlebag full of supplies and clothes, with no support vehicle. Just himself and a small cadre of bicycling friends. It's not an eco-crusade, and by now it's clearly not a PR stunt. It's simply a ton of fun, and a way to step off the hamster-wheel of 21st Century corporate travel convenience and back into the actual world. This year, with the help of his new folding bicycle - a black HP Velotechnik Grasshopper, made in Germany - Peter will do three distinct legs of the tour: Midwest, New England, and Mid-Atlantic, connecting from leg to leg via train, bus, and (in once case) ferryboat. This kind of inter-modal transport is common in Europe, and so the wry slogan for this year's tour is "Turning America into a European socialist dystopia one folksinger at a time."

Over the past 20 years, Mulvey has pursued a restless, eclectic path as a writer and musician - immersing himself in Tin Pan Alley jazz, modern acoustic, poetry, narrative, and Americana stylings. Relentlessly touring as a headliner - his attitude is, "When you love what you do, you can work all the time," - he has also shared the stage with luminaries such as Emmylou Harris, Richard Thompson, Ani DiFranco, Indigo Girls, and Greg Brown, and has attracted an audience that stretches from Anchorage to Amsterdam.
