Memorial Day Weekend Music Guide

A list of performances in Northern Virginia

Looking to see some live music this weekend? We've put together a list of performances that range from hip-hop to American classics.

SATURDAY

Jammin Java

Find out what's happening in Viennawith free, real-time updates from Patch.

"Candyrat Guitar Night" comes to Jammin' Java for a 6:30 p.m. performance, featuring up and coming guitarists on the Candyrat Records roster, including Ewan Dobson, Gareth Pearson, Craig D'Andrea and Peter Ciluzzi. Check out www.candyrat.com for more information on these young guitarists from Canada and other areas of the world.

"The Five One," of Reston brings its unique rock/pop/reggae influenced style to Jammin' Java for a 10 p.m. performance Saturday night. The band gained national attention while playing the MTV Dewcircuit Breakout Contest and had its song "Active" featured on MTV2.  The Five One provides a great live experience.

State Theatre

Latin rock group "Octavia" comes to the State Theatre in Falls Church on Saturday night.  For more than 20 years, Octavia has been one of the most influential Bolivian rock bands in the Latin music world. Doors open at 7 p.m. and the show starts at 9 p.m. Tickets are still available on the State Theatre website.

Wolftrap

Garrison Keillor brings his "A Prairie Home Companion" radio show live to the Filene Center at Wolftrap starting at 5:45 p.m. Keillor's show has more than four million listeners across the United States.  The show will feature the following special music guests performing live The Wailin’ Jennys, Andra Suchy, Paul Appleby and Roy Blount Jr.  For more information on ticket prices check out the Wolftrap website.

Jaxx NightClub

Arlington, Va- based Outerloop Management presents the Pick Slides and Pitch Shifts Tour 2011 . Headliners include This Is Our Fight, Legend Has It and Hit This City. The show starts at 3:15 p.m. and tickets are still available on the Jaxx website.

SUNDAY

Jaxx Nightclub

Gorilla Music Group presents the Battle of the Bands starting at 4 p.m. Bands will be competing to win $500 cash and 20 hours of studio time from Gorilla Music. For more information check out the Jaxx website or the Gorilla Music website.

Wolftrap

The United States Marine Band will be performing all their classic American songs starting at 8 p.m. A fireworks display will follow the performance.  For more information check out the Wolf Trap website here.

Jimmy's Old Tavern

The Kirk McEwen Band will cap off an all day outdoor party with a live performance at 8 p.m. The all-day party features crawfish, lobster and more in the alley next to Jimmy's Old Tavern in Herndon, VA.

MONDAY

Falls Church Memorial Day Festival

The City of Falls Church presents their annual Memorial Day Festival with live music.  The Annapolis Bluegrass Coalition hits the stage at 9 a.m. and the Ken Smith Band will play at 3:30 pm.  For more information check out the City of Falls Church website.
