Future of Magruder's Unclear

As rumors spread about grocery store closing, employees and residents are left without answers.

Magruder's Supermarket — the anchor of the Vienna Shopping Center at Courthouse Road and Maple Avenue — could leave Vienna sometime this month.

But neither employees or customers seem to know when, or why. 

Rumors about the store's closing began last week; as days went by, shelves started seeming more and more empty.

A store manager who answered the phone Friday said they had heard rumors from customers, but had not been contacted by the DC-area chain's headquarters.

An employee who answered the phone Monday said "it was a possibility" the store would close, but a final decision had not been made, and he had no closing date.

Magruder's closed its Silver Spring location this summer.

Several calls from Patch to Magruder's Company headquarters have not been returned, nor have attempts to contact the shopping center's management, The Rappaport Companies.
