A look at one of the group's biggest events of the year.

The Women’s Center of Vienna www.thewomenscenter.org will have a few more dollars in the coffers thanks to a generous donation that will be made from funds raised at Casino Night, this past Saturday at Westwood Country Club hosted by the Tysons Chamber of Commerce.

This event has a 20-year history and it is the first year that the Chamber has added a charity to the benefactors of the Casino Night event. The 2013 Board decided to support a local charity to demonstrate part of its mission of “exceptional outreach.”

Seems the response from the public was very positive. When asked the total number of people who attended the event, Lisa Huffman President of Tysons Chamber said, “We don’t have final count, but around 200 people.”

As an attendee of the event, I would guess more. The ballroom hummed with excitement as participants played Poker, Blackjack, Roulette and Craps. The evening was punctuated with loud eruptions from random tables where winners raised their hands shouting “Blackjack!”

All winnings were redeemed for raffle tickets where gamblers could win generous prize donations such as signed #52 Lewis football jersey or a vacation package that included a red carpet stroll at the 2014 Emmy Awards. Several Spa Day packages including a deep tissue massage had winners running to collect their baskets. A local Vienna family’s daughter, Maggie C. won the 50/50 raffle of almost $600!

Not to be forgotten, the delicious food supplied for free from local restaurants. A good time was had by all. Mark your calendars to watch for next year’s event by visiting thewww.vtrcc.org website in January 2014. I’m sure I’ll be there!
