Readers Choice: Best Pizza

Tell us which Vienna pizza shop has the best slice

Who has the best cup of coffee? Who

Where's

Vienna Patch is asking readers to share their favorite people, places and businesses in Vienna in a series called "Readers Choice."

Here's how it will work: On Monday, we'll publish a poll and list choices for you to vote on. You'll also be able to "write in" a nomination in the comments box.

You'll be able to vote until Friday at 9 a.m. Ties will be broken by whichever business has the most positive comments in the section below. We will announce the winner at noon Friday.

What will the winner get? Bragging rights! And a framed certificate to let customers know about the title, too.

This week, we're asking you to pick the best place to grab pizza. Here are your choices (if we forgot any, shout out in the comments and we'll add them to the poll).

Because this poll is not scientific, it is not the sole consideration in choosing a winner. The winner will be determined by the Patch editor, based on poll results and reviews on Patch Places. Please vote only once per survey, per Patch.

Ita Great Pizza, Subs and Salads, nice clean place to take the family, great for Birthday Parties as well. Now I'm hungry for a slice of Donato's pizza.

Best pizza for the taste and price in the area. I drive from Merrifield to get it. They've got me hooked.

Donatos is the best by far. There thin crust margarita pizza is amazing. The service is excellent too!
Delana April 18, 2012 at 08:36 PM
Donatos "the works" pizza rocks!!!! It is the best of all pizzas. My Hubby likes the new Spicy Jack pizza.
Laura Dallman April 18, 2012 at 08:38 PM
Have you tried Donatos yet? Signed, Not from Corporate :)
Laura Dallman April 18, 2012 at 08:41 PM
Our family had grown tired of pizza, even with four teenagers. Then, we tried Donatos and we LOVE it!
David Salzberg April 18, 2012 at 10:35 PM
I have to agree -- I think Donatos is spamming the comments and the vote. I

Church street pizza for our family, hands down! I feel like it's the closest we can get to the awesome NYC pizza that I miss. LOVE their crust (not too thick, not too thin) and LOVE their sauce (with a touch of sweet). We love you Church Street!

Donatos is not just another pizza place it's and experience!
CR April 18, 2012 at 11:16 PM
Church Street Pizza is not only the best pizza in Vienna, but some of the best pizza in the entire DC metro area! It's one of the few places that I've found that comes anywhere close to the kind of pies you find in New York and New Jersey. Fantastic!
Tommy Wahoo April 18, 2012 at 11:35 PM
I didn't believe it when they said 100 pieces of pepperoni...but they did it!
Tom April 19, 2012 at 01:20 AM
Donatos is THE best.
Amelie Krikorian April 19, 2012 at 01:39 AM
LOL I looked at the times and dates on some of the postings -- you are so right. Look at the back to back 2:14 am posts, and the Joe Duffy posts... it's just like Cedar PC.

Church Street Pizza was winning hands down until the Donato marketing people starting loading the reviews with corporate spam.
DD April 19, 2012 at 06:51 PM
It's obvious that most of these comments are corporate spam, and that the vote was rigged at the last minute by someone who voted multiple times (easy enough to do if you are even slightly familiar with how "cookies" work). Patch, isn't there a way to avoid this?

When you forwarded the link, did you offer them a coupon or some other incentive for commenting? Maybe if local favorite Church Street Pizza had tons of email subscribers, they would stand a chance against a national chain, but small businesses are often at a disadvantage in that sense.
Dave April 20, 2012 at 03:57 AM
Most of the Donato's so-called "reviews" are clearly generated by either the local operators or at corporate level. I've never seen such glowing reviews for mediocre chain pizza. . I grew up in New Jersey and New York and have only found one pizzaria in Northern Virginia that's better than Church Street Pizza and it's Tony's New York Pizza in Fair Lakes (maybe the best in the entire metro area).
Amelie Krikorian April 20, 2012 at 10:44 AM
No, I won't try Donatos... the whole thing with two people with similar names commenting at 2:14 am reeks of a company that can't rely on actual customer support.
Vienna Resident April 20, 2012 at 02:09 PM
What's with the multiple comments left between 3 AM and 4 AM?
Dave April 20, 2012 at 03:09 PM
Clearly generated by the same Donato employee.
DRT April 20, 2012 at 05:51 PM
Hmm, I signed up for emails from Donato's and I get advertising each week, so how come I didn't get a link telling me to come vote in this survey? Are you sure you sent it to all your email subscribers?
Amelie Krikorian April 20, 2012 at 10:50 PM
Martin White's replies are word for word the same each time. He sounds like computer generated spam himself.

Donato's has okay pizza. Not great. Tasty toppings, but the crust was singed and the inner part of the crust was reminiscent of uncooked bread dough. Either the dough wasn't set aside to rise for sufficient time, or the oven was too hot. We finished the pizza - neither of us could imagine wanting to eat this the second day with the uncooked bread dough taste. Not enough cheese to stretch across the table, which is one of my standards for great pizza. For those who haven't yet tried Donato's, their crust doesn't "bubble" to crispiness. It stays flat. Great for photos. Overall, Church Street Pizza does a better job than Donato's. Tasty toppings, stretchy cheese, and crispy crust every time. Even good cold the second day. For a close-to-NYC slice, not in Vienna, but Flippin' Pizza is the closest and delicious every time we've been there.

Extreme Pizza is pretty good and has a lot of variety. Donatos looks and tastes like cheap Chuck E Cheese Pizza. I haven't had Church street Pizza yet but I have heard good things.
