Tysons Walmart Supercenter Now Open for Business

The new store is located off of Rt. 7 and has the typical store's full range of goods, including electronics, clothing, sporting goods, a pharmacy and a full grocery section.

The Tysons area’s first Walmart Supercenter opened its doors for business Tuesday morning.

Eager customers lined up with shopping carts outside the new store before a ribbon-cutting ceremony had even wrapped up and promptly flowed in once the festivities were over.

Tysons’ Walmart has 200 employees and is the flagship retail location in Tysons West, the development owned and operated by JBG Rosenfeld Retail.

Marty Reighard, a 14-year Walmart employee who has worked his way up from stocking grocery isles as an associate in 1999, will manage the store. Reighard previously managed a Walmart location on Virginia’s eastern shore before moving to Tysons with his family a couple of months ago.

Reighard said he believed Walmart and the new Tysons West development would become a central hub in the rapidly expanding area, and was excited about the opening of the Silver Line next year.

The new location is technically a Supercenter, but the new urban model consolidates everything into a smaller space than the company’s usual, vast Supercenters in more open areas.

“We reinvented ourselves, almost, and represented every department in every big store we have,” Reighard said.

Virginia Del. Barbara Comstock (R-34th) attended the event, celebrating the one-stop shopping opportunities the store will bring to families in the area.

“You’ve got one place where you can stop and get everything you need and it’s not going to break the bank,” she said.

Comstock also said she looked forward to the work Walmart would do with the community.

The company presented $2,000 in grants to local community groups, including Jill’s House, Westbriar Elementary School, Graham Road Elementary School and Westgate Elementary’s Parent Teacher Association and more.

“We need to have these good corporate partnerships,” Comstock said.

Tysons’ Walmart is located at 1500B Cornerside Blvd., Vienna, Va. It will be open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

The store has full stocks of clothing, electronics, toys, sporting goods and health and beauty products. It also features a grocery section with organic produce and a pharmacy.

The pharmacy will be open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturdays, and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday.

The rest of the Tysons West development, including a 24 Hour Fitness gym location and a Noodles and Company restaurant, are still under construction and expected to open soon.
