Volunteers needed for the W&OD Safety and Bike Rodeo on 4 May 2013

Vienna Bicycle Advisory Committee needs volunteers to assist in the 2nd Annual W&OD Safety and Bike Rodeo on Saturday, 4 May 2013 from 10-1pm at the Town Green.  The event is FREE for the public and put together by volunteers with special thanks to donors, sponsors, and partnerships. The tasks for volunteers are simple and they include the following:

• Giving people directions and information.
• Asking participants to sign up for various programs at the event.
• Giving out packets to children, handing out ribbons.
• Keeping everyone within the Town Green boundaries.
• Acting as "cheerleaders" and lending morale support to elementary and middle school age children at the Bike Rodeo.

If you are an energetic and community-oriented person, a high school student who needs credit for community service, someone who is retired, or if you have a couple of hours to volunteer, get involved!  Please send an email to Vienna BAC at viennabac@verizon.net to sign up.   

Town of Vienna’s Bicycle Advisory Committee (Vienna BAC) will be holding its 2nd Annual W&OD Safety and Bike Rodeo on 4 May 2013 from 10-1pm at the Town Green. 

This event is FREE for the entire family which focuses on safety and healthy habits while being active.        

• Bike Rodeo -- Vienna BAC is pleased to announce the involvement of the Vienna Police Department in the Bike Rodeo, a guided bike riding through a mock street course. Vienna Police will be teaching children ages 4 or older real life bicycle handling skills like braking, balancing, basic road rules, and how to handle obstacles. The first 200 children will receive a bike helmet donated by Safe Kids USA.
  
• Trail Safety Mini Workshop for Women by Vienna Police Department – Women of all ages can learn basic safety lessons from Officer Kristin Ruddy of the Vienna Police Department. There will be 3-30 minute sessions starting at 10:30am, 11:30am, and 12:30pm. Program ranges from awareness, prevention, risk reduction, avoidance, and basic self defense.    
• Team Scavenger Hunt -- Enter your team to participate in Town Green’s Big Search Challenge. Work together with your team members and explore the Town Green to hunt for items in a “list of clues” and receive prizes.
• B.A.C. safety awareness ambassador to the W&OD – Help us spread the word of safety “Get back to basics - Be aware, Acknowledge everything/everyone, Courtesy to all on the W&OD” and receive a bottle of water then pass the message to your neighbor on the W&OD and your neighbor receives a bottle of water courtesy of you.
