Afternoon Crash Shuts Down Locust Street

Section of road between Branch Road and Glyndon Street will be closed until 5 p.m., police say

A woman was charged with failure to pay full time and attention Tuesday afternoon after the car she was driving crashed into a utility pole on Locust Street SE, shutting down the portion of the road between Branch Road and Glyndon Street.

The crash occurred just after 12:30 p.m. The woman was heading East when the car she was driving, which appeared to be a silver mini-SUV, struck the pole.

The female driver did not suffer major injuries, Officer Bill Murray said.

Dominion Power arrived on scene just before 1:30 p.m. for repairs. According to the company's outage map, eight customers are without power.

The road will remain closed until 5 p.m.
