I-66W, I-495 Lanes Closing Overnight This Week

Traffic Tangles This Week

Overnight Lane Closures on Northbound I-495 Begin Thursday

Three northbound lanes of the Capital Beltway (I-495) will close overnight Thursday and Friday as the Silver Line Metro project begins construction of the tracks over the Beltway.

The closing will resume Sunday Feb. 20 and continue Sundays through Friday for the next five weeks.

Northbound thru traffic will use the single open lane. Driver should expect significant delays from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. each of those days.

The reason for all this: The Dulles Corridor Metrorail Project has installed a new large horizontal  blue and white crane, called a truss, to begin building the bridges that will carry the subway tracks up and over the Beltway.

In addition, the exit ramps from northbound I-495 to both northbound and southbound Route 123 will close. To access Route 123 from the Beltway, drivers will continue on the Beltway north and exit onto Georgetown Pike (route 193) turning around at Georgetown Pike the entering the southbound Beltway. Drivers can exit to both directions of Route 123 from the southbound Beltway.

Overnight I-66 West Closures Continue at Dulles Connector Road (Route 267)

Interstate 66 westbound is scheduled to close overnights at the Dulles Connector Road (Route 267) split, Monday- Saturday, from 11 p.m.to 5 a.m.

Through traffic will be detoured on to the Dulles Connector Road westbound, then on to Route 123 south toward Tysons Corner, to a right turn on to the ramp to the Capital Beltway south toward Richmond. Drivers can then rejoin I-66 from the Beltway. Local traffic can use exits prior to the detour area.

For safety reasons, traffic cannot be allowed to flow under this construction work.

Daytime Lane Closure on Eastbound Dulles Connector Road (Route 267)

The left lane of the eastbound Dulles Connector Road (Route 267) will be closed from the I-495 overpass to the [Old] Chain Bridge Road overpass during daytime hours next week. The closures will be in place Monday-Thursday, from 9:30 a.m.- 3:30 p.m., and Friday, 9:30 a.m.-Noon. Crews will be installing manholes.

Restriping along Leesburg Pike (Route 7) Tuesday and Wednesday

Single lanes in both directions of Leesburg Pike (Route 7) from Route 123 to Tyco Road may be closed anytime between 9:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m., Tuesday and Wednesday, to allow Dulles Corridor Metrorail crews to restripe lanes.

Drivers should use extreme caution and expect possible delays along this stretch of road while the restriping occurs. The paint truck will be followed by a crash truck and a shadow vehicle for motorist safety.

Westpark Bridge Closures Nearly Complete

The bridge spans which connects Westpark Drive to Tysons Corner Center over Route 123, are almost complete.  Meanwhile, the bridge may be closed between 10 p.m. and 5:30 a.m. any night next week.

To avoid this closing, Westpark Drive traffic will be directed to detour by staying on Westpark Drive, to turn left on to International Drive, then left on Chain Bridge Road (Route 123) to enter Tysons Corner Center on the right. An alternate route would be to use Tysons Boulevard, which also allows drivers to turn left on International Drive to Chain Bridge Road.

Bridge construction crews will be lifting segments into place over the road.
