Lanes On 66 W To Close Overnight Thursday

Shift will help ease congestion at interchange with 495, VDOT says

The Virginia Department of Transportation will close multiple lanes on 66 West and 495 South overnight Thursday to address backups caused by a recent change in traffic pattern.

VDOT had previously eliminated one of two exit lanes from 495 South to 66 West as part of the 495 Express Lanes project.

To reduce some of the congestion caused by that change, VDOT said, it will restore both lanes at Exit 49, which takes drivers from I-495 south to I-66 west, and also open a fifth lane along I-66 west.
