I was driving through the mall around that time and no fewer than 12 police cruisers absolutely tore right past me through the mall road, lights flashing, sirens blaring, along w a police chopper. It was either a serious chase or serious overkill.

Thanks for the eyewitness account John! We're still waiting on some more information.

I also was leaving work on Westpark and counted about 15 police cars flew by, some were VA State Police. Plus, the police helicopter was flying above.

I was headed towards fairfax on 66w. I witnessed an African American man (I too am AA) with a black hat on and dark sunglasses. He was driving in a hyundai box type black vehicle. He was driving in the full on traffic on the left shoulder lane headed east. I too witnessed the helicopter and approximately 25 cop cars. 10 to 15 in hot pursuit and 10 more joining the chase further east on the west lane. I thought how funny it is that someone is running from the police towards the nations capital. Not a bright idea.

Yes - I thought the police helicopter was either going to land on 123 (or crash!) he was so close! And, I saw 3 unmarked vans fly through the intersection with very some serious looking swat and camouflaged men in them.

A traffic violation? Sheesh. Unless there was more to it, that's a joke. The contingent of cops that I saw tearing through Tysons was suitable for a massacre or a terrorist attack, not a speeder. If they have that much time on their hands, then perhaps they could dedicate some resources to fixing the senseless timing on the traffic lights that unnecessarily double my commute time every day.

We might be told that it was for a traffic violation, but there's no chance that response was for that. Perhaps it's best we don't know what was going on.

I was in traffic on 66 headed towards Dulles/Centreville. The pursuit got onto 66 right where Vienna merges onto 66. At that time there were about 6 police officers in pursuit. No helicopter at this time, but as I proceeded about 10 other police both in marked and unmarked vehicles pursued. Looked extremely intense.

My sense is that there is much more to the story than this. Traffic tickets are probably the least of his crimes...or his intended ones.

I heard the helicopter and assumed they were chasing John Johnson Jr.

Agree with SAW... hint, unmarked vans with fully armed men in military combat gear not generally used to chase a speeder.
