Vienna is under a severe thunderstorm watch through 10 p.m. Monday, according to the National Weather Service.
“The atmosphere is juiced and storms are organizing to the west, setting the stage for a round of afternoon and evening thunderstorms, a few of which may be severe,” according to the Capital Weather Gang.
Already, some areas north and west (toward Leesburg) have switched from severe thunderstorm watches to warnings. A watch means conditions are ripe for severe thunderstorms; a warning means severe thunderstorms are imminent.
Following a high temperature of 90 degrees early Monday afternoon, forecasters expect temperatures to drop into the mid-70s with a chance for isolated thunderstorms Monday night.
