I-66 Westbound Detour Overnights May 23-24

Interstate 66 westbound at the Dulles Connector Road (Route 267) will be closed overnight Monday and Tuesday between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m. for Dulles Corridor Metrorail Project construction (weather permitting).
 
These closures will affect drivers bound for destinations along I-66 west of Arlington. Thru traffic will be detoured on to the Dulles Connector Road westbound, then on to the Capital Beltway north, to a U-turn at Georgetown Pike to go south on the beltway. Drivers can then rejoin I-66 from the beltway.
 
To avoid the closure, drivers bound for destinations inside the Capital Beltway may find alternate routes via other local westbound roads by exiting I-66 prior to the I-66/Dulles Connector Road split. For example, traffic bound for the Falls Church City/Broad Street and Idylwood areas can exit before the detour and use Route 29/Washington Street to connect with Broad Street (Route 7 west).

Tuesday through Thursday starting at 9:30 p.m. one lane will close on I-495 (the Capital Beltway)  south at I-66, progressing to a full I-495 south closure after 11 p.m. for steel beam placement.

The I-66 westbound ramp to I-495 south and the left I-66 eastbound HOV ramp to I-495 south/north will also be closed.  Motorists will be detoured from I-495 south to I-66 west, to Exit 62, Nutley Street and follow signage to I-66 east back to I-495 south.  The detour may add an additional 15-20 minutes onto a trip during the peak overnight hours. All lanes will reopen by 5 a.m.

Weekday work: Closures occur between 9:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. unless otherwise noted.

• Expect daytime delays in the Tysons Corner area along the Dulles Connector Road (Route 267), Leesburg Pike (Route 7) and Dolley Madison Blvd. (Route 123).

The following closures are scheduled to occur for the Dulles Metrorail Project between 9:30 p.m. and 5 a.m., unless otherwise noted

• I-495 north from Exit 47, Leesburg Pike (Route 7) to Exit 46, Chain Bridge Rd. (Route 123) - Two right lanes closed Sunday through Thursday nights from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. for pier work.
• I-66 east from the Dulles Connector Rd. (Route 267) to Great Falls St. overpass:  Left lane closed Monday through Thursday nights for retaining wall work.
• Dulles International Airport Access Hwy west from Wiehle Ave. to Reston Pkwy. Right lane closed from 6 p.m. Tuesday through 2 p.m. Wednesday for utility work.
• Dulles International Airport Access Hwy west from Leesburg Pike (Route 7) - Left lane closed Monday night from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. for pier construction.
• Dulles International Airport Access Hwy east to Trap Rd. to Leesburg Pike (Route 7) - Road closed Monday night from 7:30 p.m. to 5 a.m. for pier construction. Traffic will be directed to the Dulles International Airport Access Hwy. west, which will hold the two way Airport traffic.
• Leesburg Pike (Route 7) east and west from Tyco Road to Dulles Toll Road (Route 267): Two lanes closed Monday through Thursday nights for traffic shift.  Expect intermittent full road closures of up to 15 minutes.
• Leesburg Pike (Route 7) west from Westpark Drive to Spring Hill Road: Two lanes closed Monday through Thursday nights for utility work. Expect intermittent road closures of up to 15 minutes after midnight.
• Dolley Madison Blvd. (Route 123) north at Scotts Crossing Roard: Left most turn lane closed Monday through Thursday nights for span work.

• Westwood Center Dr. east and west at Leesburg Pike (Route 7) : Multiple lanes closed Sunday through Thursday nights for paving.

The following closures for the I-495 Capital Beltway Project are scheduled to occur between 9:30 p.m. and 5 a.m. unless otherwise noted.

• I-495 north at Lewinsville Rd. overpass: Three right lanes closed Sunday and Monday nights for bridge painting.
• I-495 south from Lewinsville Rd. overpass to Exit 46, Chain Bridge Rd. (Route 123): Three lanes will close Sunday through Thursday nights for bridge painting. Expect intermittent full road closures of up to 30 minutes after midnight.
• Dulles Connector Rd. (Route 267) east at I-495: Two right lanes closed Wednesday and Thursday nights for ramp shift.
• Dulles Connector Road  (Route 267) east to I-495 north:Ramp closed Monday through Thursday nights for steel beam erection. DETOUR
• Dulles Connector Road(Route 267) east to I-495 south: Ramp closed Wednesday and Thursday nights for ramp shift. DETOUR
• Chain Bridge Road (Route 123) north to I-495 south: Ramp closed Monday night for bridge overhang work. Traffic will be directed to continue north, make a U-turn onto Chain Bridge Rd. (Route 123) south and follow signs to I-495 south.
• Chain Bridge Road (Route 123) north and south at I-495 south: Two lanes closed Monday through Thursday nights for steel beam erection. Expect intermittent full road closures of up to 30 minutes after midnight.
• I-495 north at Idylwood Rd. overpass: Three right lanes closed Monday through Thursday nights for sound wall work. Expect intermittent full road closure for up to 30 minutes after midnight.
• I-495 north to Exit 49A or C, I-66 west (right or left exit): Ramp closed Monday through Thursday nights for striping. Traffic will be directed to use the alternate I-66 west exit.
• I-495 south at Exit 49, I-66 - Road closed Tuesday through Thursday nights for steel beam erection. DETOUR
• I-495 north to Exit 49A or C, I-66 west (right or left exit): Ramp closed Monday through Thursday nights for striping. Traffic will be directed to use the alternate I-66 west exit.
• I-66 west to I-495 south - Ramp closed Monday through Thursday nights for steel beam erection. DETOUR
• I-66 east HOV (left exit) to I-495 south: Ramps closed Monday through Thursday nights for steel beam erection. Traffic will be directed to use the general purpose (right exit) to I-495.
• I-66 east at I-495 - Single lane closed Sunday and Monday nights for bridge work.
• I-495 south at Exit 50, Arlington Blvd. (Route 50): Road closed Monday through Thursday nights for bridge deck work. Traffic will be directed to use the collector distributor road.
• I-495 south to Exit 50, Arlington Blvd. (Route 50) west: Intermittent ramp closures of up to 30 minutes after midnight Monday through Thursday for bridge deck work.
• Gallows Rd. (Route 650) north and south at Holly Road: Single lane closed Sunday through Thursday nights for utility work.
