Traffic Tangles: Overnight Beltway Closings Continue

Before you head out for your commute or a vacation, take a look at a list of delays, closures and construction in the Vienna area.

Multiple lane closures on southbound I-495 at Route 123
 
The three right lanes of I-495 S will be closed from Old Dominion Drive to Route 123 Monday through Wednesday from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m., for up to 30 minutes as crews construct the subway over the beltway.The entrance ramp from southbound Route 123 to southbound I-495 also will be closed at the same times and dates. Ramp traffic will be directed to continue on southbound Route 123, turn right on to International Drive, to Galleria Drive, to Tysons Boulevard, to Route 123 north.
 
On Thursday, June 30, the three left lanes will close from 2,000 feet north of Lewinsville Road to Route 123, also from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. All ramps to and from Route 123 will remain open that night.

Overnight Closures of Eastbound Tysons Boulevard between Galleria Drive and Route 123 Start Monday Night    
 
The eastbound lanes of Tysons Boulevard will be closed near Galleria Drive to Route 123 (Chain Bridge Road) from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. Monday through Thursday for pier and station work.

Leesburg Pike (Route 7) west from Westpark Drive to Spring Hill Road: Two lanes closed from 9:30 p.m. to 5 a.m. Monday to Thursday nights for utility work. Expect intermittent road closures of up to 15 minutes after midnight.

Expect daytime delays in the Tysons Corner area between 9:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m along the Dulles Connector Road (Route 267), Leesburg Pike (Route 7) and Dolley Madison Boulevard (Route 123).

More Closures (from 9:30 p.m. to 5 a.m. unless otherwise noted):

• I-495 south at Exit 47, Leesburg Pike (Route 7): Left lane of collector distributor road closed Thursday night for traffic shift.
• I-495 north at Exit 47, Leesburg Pike (Route 7): Road closed Monday and Tuesday nights for bridge demolition. Traffic will be directed to use the collector distributor road.
• I-495 north to Exit 47A, Leesburg Pike (Route 7) west: Ramp closed Wednesday and Thursday nights for bridge demolition.
• I-495 north at Exit 47, Leesburg Pike (Route 7): Three right lanes closed Wednesday and Thursday nights for bridge demolition.
• Leesburg Pike (Route 7) east or west at I-495 - Single lane closed Monday through Thursday nights for bridge demolition.
• Leesburg Pike (Route 7) west to I-495 north: Ramp closed Wednesday and Thursday nights for bridge demolition. Traffic will be directed to continue west, make a U-turn at International Drive onto Leesburg Pike (Route 7) east and follow signs to I-495 north.
• Leesburg Pike (Route 7) east to I-495 south: Ramp closed Thursday night for bridge demolition. Traffic will be directed to continue east, make a U-turn at George Marshall Dr. onto Leesburg Pike (Route 7) west and follow signs to I-495 south.

 
REMINDER: Flagging Operation at Magarity/Olney Intersection Continues  
 
Flaggers will be directing thru traffic at the Magarity Road/Olney Road intersection in the Pimmit Hills neighborhood as crews continue restoration of the curb line and gutter, and installation of a new storm drainage pipe.
 
This work will reduce traffic to one lane on each road from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 9:30 a.m. to noon on Friday, July 1.
 
Private entrances and driveways will be accessible at all times. Signage will be installed warning drivers that the flaggers and one-lane traffic are ahead. Drivers are urged to use extreme caution when traveling through this intersection.
