Traffic Tangles: Overnight Beltway Closings up to 25 Minutes, Multiple Dulles Lane Closings

A weekly listing of detours, delays, closures in and around Vienna

There are several overnight closures that will run through Aug. 6.

All closures run 9:30 p.m. to 5 a.m. unless noted otherwise.

  • I-495 north from Exit 46, Chain Bridge Rd. (Route 123) to Exit 47, Leesburg Pike (Route 7): Two left lanes closed Wednesday through Saturday nights for bridge work. Expect intermittent full road closures of up to 25 minutes after midnight.
  • I-495 south from Old Dominion Drive overpass to Exit 46, Chain Bridge Rd. (Route 123): Three lanes closed nights through Saturday for bridge work.
  • I-66 west from Great Falls Street overpass to Exit 67, Dulles Connector Road (Route 267): Right lane closed Tuesday and Wednesday night for work zone access work.
  • I-495 south from Old Dominion Rd. overpass to Exit 46, Chain Bridge Rd. (Route 123): Three right lanes closed nights through Saturday for barrier movement and utility work.
  • I-495 south to Exit 45B, Dulles Connector Road (Route 267) east: Ramp closed Friday and Saturday nights for bridge construction. Traffic will be directed to continue south to Exit 46B, Chain Bridge Road (Route 123) north and follow signs to Dulles Connector Road (Route 267) east.
  • Eastbound Dulles International Airport Access Highway (DIAAH) to Close Overnight Friday and Saturday Nights; Detour on to Westbound Lane. The eastbound lanes of the Dulles International Airport Access Highway (DIAAH) will be closed overnights Friday to Saturday from approximately 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. This DIAAH road closure begins at 7 pm.
  • The eastbound Dulles Toll Road (Route 267) will remain open next week.
  • Bridge Construction over Westpark Drive/Gosnell Road at Leesburg Pike (Route 7); Multiple Overnight Closures and Detours Required. Weather permitting, these closures will be in place from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. Sundays through Fridays for approximately the next four to six weeks.
  • Dulles Corridor Metrorail Project crews plan to close the eastbound lanes of Tysons Boulevard from Galleria Drive to Route 123 (Chain Bridge Road) overnight Monday, Aug. 1 through Friday, Aug. 5, for pier and station work. In addition, the turn lanes from Galleria Drive and Route 123 on to eastbound Tysons Boulevard will be closed. These closures will be in place from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. each night. Westbound Tysons Boulevard traffic will remain open. 

Reminder: Paving Operations along Route 123 Next Week
 
Dulles Corridor Metrorail Project subcontract crews are performing a large amount of pavement restoration along Route 123 from Scotts Crossing Road to the Tysons Galleria area in the overnight hours through Friday. Old Meadow Road, Tysons Boulevard and Galleria Drive also will be restored. Detours will be necessary.
 
Weather permitting, the paving is scheduled to occur between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. on weeknights. Friday night work will complete by 7 a.m. on Saturday.
 
Noise warning:Every effort will be made to minimize the noise associated with this work. However, paving is an extremely dangerous activity and will require the full use of backup alarms to ensure workers' safety.
 
Flagging Operation at Magarity/Olney Intersection Continues
 
Flaggers will be directing thru traffic at the Magarity Road/Olney Road intersection in Falls Church as crews continue restoration of the curb line and gutter, and installation of a new storm drainage pipe.
 
This work will reduce thru traffic to one lane on each road from Monday, Aug. 1 to Thursday, Aug. 4, from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., and 9:30 a.m. to noon on Friday, Aug. 5.
 
Private entrances and driveways will be accessible at all times. Signage will be installed warning drivers that the flaggers and one-lane traffic are ahead. Drivers are urged to use extreme caution when traveling through this intersection.
