Traffic Tangles: Overnight Closings Of Hunter Mill Road, Beltway At Rt. 123

Before you hit the road to or from Vienna, here are some road projects, closures and delays to look out for.

Overnight Closures of Hunter Mill Road On Monday And Tuesday Nights

Weather permitting, Hunter Mill Road will be closed at the Dulles Toll Road between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m. Monday and Tuesday.
 
The closing is necessary for work on the bridge that will carry tracks for the Dulles Corridor Metrorail Project in the median of the Dulles Toll Road over Hunter Mill Road.
 
Drivers going south on Hunter Mill Road will be detoured to turning right on to Sunset Hills Road, left on Wiehle Avenue, then left on to Sunrise Valley Drive to reconnect with Hunter Mill Road south.
 
If traveling north on Hunter Mill Road, drivers should use the reverse of the southbound detour. They will be directed to turn left on Sunrise Valley Drive, right on Wiehle Avenue, then right on Sunset Hills Road to access northbound Hunter Mill Road.
 
Magarity Road Closures Wednesday and Thursday Nights

Magarity Road will be closed at the Dulles Connector Road (Route 267) from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. Wednesday and Thursday.
 
Eastbound Magarity Road traffic will be directed on to northbound Anderson Road, right on [Old] Chain Bridge Road, then right on Great Falls Street to access Magarity Road.
 
Westbound Magarity Road traffic can use northbound Great Falls Street, left on [Old] Chain Bridge Road, to southbound Anderson Road. The turn lanes from both directions of Great Falls Street on to Magarity Road also will be closed.
 
Bridge Construction over Westpark Drive/Gosnell Road at Leesburg Pike (Route 7); Multiple Overnight Closures and Detours Required
 
Bridge construction over the Westpark Drive/Gosnell Road intersection with Leesburg Pike (Route 7) is scheduled to continue next week.

Weather permitting, these closures will be in place from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. Sundays through Thursdays, and 10:30 p.m. to 7 a.m. on Fridays, until that portion of the bridge work is complete.

 Overnight thru traffic along both directions of Leesburg Pike (Route 7) still will be open, but left turns on to Westpark or Gosnell will not be allowed. For safety reasons, thru traffic on Westpark/Gosnell will be prohibited, and will be detoured by using Route 7 as follows: 
Southbound Westpark Drive thru traffic and motorists wanting to turn left on to eastbound Leesburg Pike will need to turn right on to westbound Leesburg Pike, then U-turn at either Spring Hill Road or Tyco Road, and continue on eastbound Leesburg Pike toward Gosnell Road.
Northbound Gosnell Road thru traffic and motorists wanting to turn left on to westbound Leesburg Pike will need to turn right on to eastbound Leesburg Pike, pass under Route 123, turn left on International Drive, left on Chain Bridge Road (Route 123), then take the exit ramp to Route 7 to turn right on Westpark Drive.

Lane Closures of I-495 at Route 123 to Continue Next Week
 
Multiple overnight lane and ramp closures on both directions of I-495 at Route 123 are expected to continue Sundays through Fridays through the end of the year, weather permitting. Stay tuned for updates on closures and possible detours as they are scheduled.

• I-495 north at Exit 47, Leesburg Pike (Rt. 7) to Exit 46, Chain Bridge Road (Rt. 123): Three lanes closed Thursday to Saturday for cantilever construction. Closed Tuesday to Thursday 11 p.m. to 5 a.m., Friday 10:30 p.m. to 7 a.m. and Saturday 10 p.m. to 9 a.m.

• I-495 south between old Dominion Drive and Exit 46, Chain Bridge Road, (Rt. 123): Three lanes closed Sunday - Friday, and Saturday until 9 a.m. Sunday, for Cantilever construction.

 
Full Closures of Eastbound Tysons Boulevard Continue Overnights
 
Dulles Corridor Metrorail Project crews plan to close the eastbound lanes of Tysons Boulevard from Galleria Drive to Route 123 (Chain Bridge Road) from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. each night Monday through Saturday for pier and station work. In addition, the turn lanes from Galleria Drive and Route 123 on to eastbound Tysons Boulevard will be closed. 
 
Westbound Tysons Boulevard traffic will remain open.

• Leesburg Pike (Route 7) west at Tyco Rd.: Right lane closed Monday - Thursday nights for utility work. 
• Leesburg Pike (Route 7) west between Westpark Dr. and Spring Hill Rd. Multiple lane closures Monday - Saturday nights for utility work. Traffic will be detoured to make a U-turn at Tyco Rd., then make a right onto Spring Hill Rd south.
• Leesburg Pike (Route 7) east at Westpark Dr. Two left turn lanes closed Monday - Friday nights for pier work. Traffic will be directed to follow detour signs.
• Leesburg Pike (Route 7) east at the Dulles Toll Rd. (Route 267) Left lane closed Monday - Thursday nights for utility work. 
• Leesburg Pike (Route 7) east at Spring Hill Rd.Two left turn lanes closed Monday - Tuesday nights. Traffic will be directed to follow detour signs. 
• Leesburg Pike (Route 7) east from Westpark Dr. to Chain Bridge Rd. (Route 123) Two left lanes closed Thursday, Friday and Sunday nights for tunnel work.
